Sea Grant experts will be available to discuss harmful algal blooms, invasive species, marine debris, clean boating, dead zones, and climate change, along with educational opportunities available at Stone Laboratory, The Ohio State University’s island campus on Lake Erie.

“We encourage everyone to visit our booth so you can learn more about all Lake Erie has to offer and how you can keep help protect it for future generations,” says Jill Bartolotta, Extension Educator for Ohio Sea Grant.

Visitors can support Stone Lab’s research, education, and outreach efforts by purchasing admission on January 20, Family Day. The event’s managing organization, the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association (LEMTA), donates $1 from every admission ticket purchased that day to Stone Lab student scholarships.

College and advanced high school students can learn more about summer classes at Stone Lab, and teachers can plan science field trips for their classes or find out more about educator classes available at Stone Lab. Boaters can stop by to take the “Clean Boater Pledge” to help protect Lake Erie water quality, and receive a giveaway that will help make clean boating simple! Other activities include a giant map of the Great Lakes, giveaways to help remind you to bring your own bags to the store, and live snakes.
