Konrad Marine Offers Bolt-On Replacement Solutions for Merc TR, TRS Stern Drives

Attention Inland Waterway Marinas – If you are seeking "new" markets to increase sales, we have a quick and easy "old" one for you to consider.

While stopping into numerous marinas up and down the inland waterways, we noted a considerable number of houseboats, cruisers, and performance boats that had older Mercury TR, TRS and #3 stern drives on them. As you well know, support and manufacturing of parts for these drives ended years ago, which makes a rebuild virtually impossible.

Konrad Marine brings you good news and an opportunity to increase sales in this marketplace. Konrad offers direct bolt-on replacement solutions, called the PRS (Performance Replacement System) series, for the obsolete TR, TRS, and #3 drives from Mercury. Both new and refurbished pricing options are available.

There are two main options for the replacement process:

Complete Outer Transom and Drive Replacement – changing everything on the outside of the boat, which takes about 8 man hours to convert. Engine relocation is NOT required, the inner TR transom plate remains along with the transmission, tailpiece, etc.
Drive or "Leg" Replacement – if the transom is still in good working order, Konrad Marine also offers a "half" conversion. This takes about 3 man hours and consists of a bell housing and drive switch, all work is done on the outside of the vessel.

Once the transom and/or upper drive shaft is converted, customers can select one of five lower gear housing assemblies:

TR Replacement:

Konrad 520 – standard, commercial, cruising lower; extremely durable, commonly 3 – 4 times the life or the original TR drive.
Konrad 560 dual propeller – to add efficiency in applications between 7,000 – 10,000 lbs. per drive system.

TRS Replacement:

Konrad 540 – standard, recreational speed lower.
Konrad 540HP – high performance lower for applications with speeds over 75 mph.
540 X-Factor – for speeds over 100 mph.
