Just Around The Pointe Update

Traci Lynn Martin Continues Paddling & It Has Not Been Easy!

Published: Sunday, October 29, 2017

As of October 23, Traci Lynn Martin has paddled 3,155 miles and crossed into Ohio just that afternoon! She is officially on the south shore of Lake Erie, with the 3 largest of the Great Lakes completed!

These are the breadcrumbs of what she has paddled so far. The entire Just Around The Pointe Team would like to express it's gratitude to the generosity of the sponsors. As I am sure you can appreciate, constant communication has been difficult due to some of the remoteness of the locations on the Great Lakes.

Traci has been featured on local TV newscasts, articles in Atlantic Coastal Kayaker, The Paddler e-zine, and was very recently interviewed by Rapid Media, the publisher of Paddling Magazine, the leading paddling magazine in North America. She has also been contacted by ESPN about her expedition. This is in the discussion phase right now. We will you keep you updated as the situation warrants.

The picture to the left is Traci passing Detroit. She paddled the Detroit River in one day! Her longest mileage day was on the Bruce Peninsula, Ontario on Lake Huron, where she covered nearly 50 miles! She put in before sunrise and ended her day at almost 11 PM.

The number of people Traci has reached on this journey is beyond comprehension. From the dozens upon dozens of people who have opened their homes to Traci, fed her, offered her a hot shower and a hot meal to the hundreds following her on line, the impact of Just Around The Pointe grows exponentially daily.

Needless to say, Traci's progress is dictated by weather conditions, and with the fast approaching colder weather, Traci is paddling with a fervor that is inspirational to say the least. The cold weather also increases the effect of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Daily she wakes up in a lot of pain, but, pushes on. To say that Traci and this expedition has pushed on through set backs that would have called off many others is an understatement and is a commitment Traci has to her spirit, her strength, her message and commitment to her sponsors. Without your generous assistance, none of this would be possible.

If anyone has any questions or further information, please contact the Project Manager, Scott Edwards, at [email protected] or call him at 610.299.8468 He will get back to you as soon as possible. He is in constant contact with the on site expedition and has access to pictures and updates as they become available.
