A version of this article appeared in the Launch (May/June) 2022 of Great Lakes Scuttlebutt magazine.
It’s hard to believe that the 2022 Great Lakes boating season is upon us already! Seems like just last week the JTA Team was completing the loading and offloading of 11 yachts from Sarnia to Ft. Lauderdale!
With the increasing cost of consumer goods and the global logistics bottleneck, the contracted ship was significantly late in arriving to the Great Lakes to pick up the yachts, having been dispatched from Korea with some equipment bound for Sarnia. Once it finally arrived in Fort Lauderdale, the JTA Team successfully offloaded the yachts and delivered them back to their respective owners.
Since then, the JTA Team has spent most of the winter running clients’ boats down in the Florida Keys, Dry Tortugas, and the Bahamas. In fact, as I write this, I’m sitting in Nassau Harbor on my way down to Staniel Cay and Highbourne Cay for an owner’s trip on a brand new Riva 68 Diable. Everything has been moving along nicely and I’ve continued to expand the horizons for JTA to be available to assist our clients with weekend trips, orientations, and long range deliveries. I continue to recruit and train new Captains, upgrade licenses with some of the existing Captains, and expand our network into the S. Florida market for next winter.
I have also received my brokerage license and hold it with Allied Marine, the brokerage house for the Ferretti Group. JTA has been involved in operating numerous Pershings, Rivas, and Ferrettis over the past three years and I was recently approached by the Group with a sort of hybrid role. As the market for the Ferretti Group’s brands continue to expand into the Great Lakes, the new role both continues to operate JTA but now I also provide the ability to broker both new and used boats into the marketplace for the Great Lakes and Florida.
As things continue to move forward, we are poised for another record year with multiple deliveries already confirmed from south Florida to north Michigan, repeat clients into and out of the Bahamas, and others up the East Coast to be positioned for the opening of the Erie Canal on May 20. Another ship is planned to bring a load of yachts from Fort Lauderdale to Sarnia in late May / early June, and many day trips and weekend getaways are planned in and around the Lake Erie Islands.
In closing, the JTA Team would enjoy the opportunity to work alongside you and your family for a long weekend getaway, evening cruise, or just let you sit back, relax, and let our Captains take care of everything for you, your family, and your guests for a trip.
