Drystack Device Launches Boats Longer than Waterway is Wide

Published: Friday, March 18, 2022 12:00 pm

One drawback of using a forklift to launch a vessel into a narrow canal is that it happens perpendicular to the waterway. This isn't the case with a Lateral Launcher from CAPRIA. The machinery lowers the boat into the water parallel to the shore, thus overcoming many of the challenges of operating a drystack business in areas with limited space and access.

Because of how the Lateral Launcher functions, it creates new opportunities at formerly unusable waterfront locations. Boats can be launched that are longer than the waterway is wide. Plus, because the CAPRIA machinery can be built with virtually unlimited travel, it's ideal for areas with steep embankments and/or excessive tidal range.

Boats are loaded onto a Lateral Launcher with a CAPRIA Top- or Bottom-Running Stacker Crane. CE-marked and manufactured to ISO 9001 standards, both devices are semi-automated to reduce human error and all-electric to eliminate the noise and odor of a forklift. The combination can pull a vessel from a drystack rack and have it floating in less than three minutes. With a standard CAPRIA solution of two launchers to one crane for 250–300 boats, the positive financial implications are evident. A video of the product is available at www.bit.ly/CAPRIA.
