Classic Corner: It’s “SHOWTIME”

Don't know where to go? We got you covered with Great Lakes Scuttlebutt’s fifth annual “Classic Boat Show Calendar” found in this issue. There are a couple of shows that have either changed their dates or improved the format to make a bigger, better show.
One show we are especially excited about is the 27th Annual White Lake Antique Boat and Auto Show — celebrating the Whitehall tender. For this year’s wooden boat show event, they are looking forward to a change in the regular schedule of the event to coincide with the classic car “White Lake/Montague CRUZ’IN Automobile Parade” that occurs the evening prior to Saturday’s event on July 28. So, check it out! The new show management team has brought a lot of new, exciting ideas to make the event one to visit.
Another great show that changed its venue and format is the Buffalo Launch Club’s September 7 event on Grand Island, NY. It will be their 40th show! As many shows have a “static nature,” this show looks to be “user friendly,” not just “dunk-in and tie up!” The race boats that were part of the event have moved to their own venue called “Thunder at The Outer Harbor.” This frees up the waterway for boats to come and go as they please, taking people on rides to really enjoy the hobby! I attended this show a couple of years back with Old School. It is a great location at the old launch club on the Niagara River. We did a cruise to the edge of the Niagara Falls with several boats, and we got close enough to feel the mist from the falls!
Another great September show that will change in 2018 will be the annual Port Huron, MI, show. And change it will — BIG TIME — well, at least for this year because Port Huron will be the site of this year’s A.C.B.S. INTERNATIONAL Annual Meeting and Boat Show held at the River Street Marina in downtown Port Huron on September 14 and 15.
But, as always with the A.C.B.S. annual event, the local chapter puts on a week of “pre-events” to showcase the local waterways and attractions. See here in this issue and our next — the Summer Issue (Jul/Aug) — for more details.
