Arksen: The Tech Company Driving A New Wave Of Innovation
Published: Thursday, August 29, 2019
Arksen is a technology and innovation company building the most authentic, capable, and efficient explorer vessels of their kind. The brainchild of UK tech entrepreneur Jasper Smith, the Arksen product and ethos is driving a new wave of innovation within the marine industry.
With the objective to provide a positive impact through technology, research, exploration and adventure, Arksen comprises of three key elements; the Arksen Series - Arksen 70, Arksen 85 and Arksen 100, the Arksen Foundation, and the Arksen Explorers’ Club.
Arksen and the Arksen Foundation were born out of a deep-rooted commitment to help promote behavioural change in the way that we use and understand the ocean.
Scientists believe that we have only discovered 9% of the species within the Ocean. Every second breath we take is generated by it and the ocean lies at the core of the Earth’s stability, regulating weather and absorbing carbon. When looking at this, it was hard to know where to start, but we were appalled at the wastage in the yacht industry on several fronts; the use of non-recyclable materials in production, the millions of hours boats lay idle in marinas around the world, the lack of sea time available to scientists and other advocates of a clean world ocean.
So, Arksen is driven to inspire and lead a new generation of sailor, explorer, adventurer and scientist; motivating them to go further, for longer and in support of projects that empower global audiences to better understand, protect and nurture the ocean world.
Through producing our authentic, explorer vessels, utilizing the work of our Foundation and Explorers club, we feel we can accelerate our transition to a sustainable marine future through a paradigm shift in yacht ownership model.
The not-for-profit Foundation so far has already actively contributed to a number of projects; Adventure Scientists, Seabed 2030 and Ocean Futures. All Arksen owners join the Foundation and pledge to donate 10% of their vessels’ annual sea time to projects that the Foundation collectively supports.
Most recently, Arksen partnered with MarineShift360, a collaboration of marine-businesses contributing valuable data from their materials and design processes to further develop a new Life Cycle Assessment tool for the global marine industry.
Smith commented on the partnership:
“Sustainability and deep technology are at the very core of the Arksen business, two fundamentals that we share with MarineShift360, a venture that will empower marine professionals to make informed decisions on materials and design choices through thorough data analysis and owners to make purchase decisions based on product and environmental impact. We are excited to work with the team and to help lead a drive towards sustainable practices across the whole marine sector.”
