10th Annual Bayview One Design Regatta Returns

DETROIT (December 20, 2021) –Bayview Yacht Club, one of the most storied and historical sailing clubs in the world, is pleased to announce that the 10th Annual Bayview One Design Regatta (BOD) will return to its traditional date in June after hosting the event the last two years in August. The BOD will be held, Friday-Sunday, June 3-5, 2022. The event offers a long weekend of racing on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River for all types and sizes of boats and encourages sailors of all ages and calibers to participate. James Morphew, Regatta Chairman, made the announcement.
“Due to the pandemic for the last two years, the race has been held in August, with the 10th Anniversary of the race coming up in 2022, we focused on getting the event back to the traditional date of the first weekend in June,” said Morphew. “We have already received renewed interest and excitement in the sailing community about the return of the BOD to the first weekend in June. As a result, we anticipate having upwards of 125 boats participating, if not more.”
The 2022 BOD will continue a familiar format with 14 one-design sailboat racing classes on Lake St. Clair and the Detroit River on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Classes with strong contingents that are expected to enter are Melges 24, C&C 35, Cal 25, J/35, J/70, J/111, J/120, Lightning, Thistle, Tartan Ten, Flying Scot, Crescent, Finn, and Sunfish. Organizers expect many classes to consider the event as a venue for their regional, national, and even world championships.
According to 2022 Bayview Yacht Club Commodore Lynn Kotwicki, “We are excited to host this international regatta that will showcase some tremendous sailors and racing for the 10th year straight year. It also gives us a chance to introduce our new clubhouse to the sailing world.”
