We all would rather be boating. When we’re not boating, we’re thinking about it, right? A big part of maximizing your time on the water is the accessories. From the sound system on your boat to water toys to fishing gear, most boaters have a ton of extras for their preferred way of spending time on the water. Rarely, though, is there an accessory that can go from your boat to time spent on the dock. Enter Floating Flame.

Floating Flame, is a patented portable fire pit ready for anything. Taking the chill out of cooler days and evenings on the water, Floating Flame extends the boating season for hours of enjoyment – no matter the temperature, and it is the perfect accessory for days when you are stuck on the dock. Originally designed for use on pontoon boats, the Floating Flame has quickly evolved into the most versatile fire pit on the market.

Floating Flame is constructed in a compact form factor, yet large enough to put out excellent heat using a 20-pound propane tank. It offers over 20 hours of burn time; all while being optimized for operation in a marine environment with all marine-grade stainless steel components. With a similar concept to marine grills that have been in use on the water for more than 50 years, Floating Flame fire pits are perfectly safe for use on boats. Following eight years of engineering and testing, the Floating Flame incorporates multiple safety features, including fire-retardant construction material and UL-listed propane components.

The Floating Flame was founded by serial entrepreneur Ben Caya, after purchasing a unit from the original designer, before they shut down. Following a number of other projects in various industries, Caya brought his entrepreneurial spirit and engineering background to redevelop the original design based on his years of using it as a customer himself. Since its introduction, Floating Flame has grown exponentially, shipping units to customers across the U.S. and Canada.

“This is the most fun project I’ve been a part of,” says Caya. “I began as a customer when I bought the original boat fire pit almost eight years ago and it remains one of my favorite purchases. When I realized the original creator had shut down operations, I reached out to reboot the business. Taking my years of actual use with the product, I went back to the drawing board to reimagine what a 2.0 version could look like. The product you see today is a culmination of years of tinkering to achieve the ultimate fire pit for your boat!”

The Floating Flame is intuitive to fire up, with a simple dial control just like a grill and features a smokeless design free of ashes, sparks and odor. The frame features side pods that can be used as coolers, extra storage or even a garbage can. For the ultimate portability, the lightweight, Floating Flame has two ergonomic handles for easy transportation, allowing users to bring the heat to any adventure from tailgates to backyard cookouts and camping.

The unit itself weighs about 35 pounds without a propane tank (about the weight of a quality cooler) and is 40x19x24 inches. It was designed from the ground up to fit perfectly on a pontoon boat, does not need to be bolted down, and has rubber-like feet to prevent it from sliding. With the addition of the propane tank the unit has additional weight to stay planted, as the tank also gives it a very low center of gravity. It is designed to meet ANSI safety standard Z21.97-2017, which requires the flame to stay lit even with 30mph winds. Take it with you to sporting events, concerts, and when the winter hits, you’ll still be using your Floating Flame, as it’s great for camping, to warm up a hunting cabin or take it along while ice fishing.
