Commerce Twp., MI – The Progressive® Metro Boat Show, held September 15-18 at the Lake St. Clair Metropark was deemed a success by producer Michigan Boating Industries Association, exhibitors, sponsors, and attendees. More than 11,000 attendees strolled the walkways of the Shore and South marinas at the Metropark, spanning nearly a 1-mile footprint.

“Summer-like weather, hundreds of boats and accessory displays, and boating enthusiasts coming together made for four fantastic days of the boat show,” said Show Manager Nicki Polan. “The show was 30% larger this year, and boaters were eager to shop and spend time with friends and family at this significant boating event.”

While attendance was at an all-time high last year, numbers normalized this year, but were still higher than pre-pandemic numbers in 2019.

“We had an absolutely wonderful weekend for Dunigan Marine’s debut in the Metro Boat Show. It turned out better than I could have ever imagined,” said Exhibitor Tom Dunigan. “We ended up selling three boats out of the show and have a ton of great listings coming in soon!”

The boating industry continues to ride the wave of success in Michigan. In 2021, new boat, motor, trailer, and accessory purchases increased 17%, nearing $1.5 billion, and was the 12th year of consecutive growth in our state. The recreational boating industry has an impressive annual economic impact of $7.8 billion in Michigan and employs nearly 58,000, according to the National Marine Manufacturers Association.

The Progressive® Metro Boat Show is produced by the Michigan Boating Industries Association (MBIA). Save the date for 2023 show, September 14-17.
