Necessity Is The Mother Of All Inventions: Enter SOS

Published: Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Capt. Randy Banger is a professional captain, mechanic, and fabricator, with over 150,000 nm at sea. More than ten times in the last dozen years, he has experienced first hand the terror of a sinking vessel due to shaft seal failures. Yachts that sit in slips unused for months are the most at risk.

In an effort to save lives, and the vessels that he is responsible for, Capt. Randy invented a unique and effective solution to this common, potential disaster while underway.

The SOS “first aid kit for your boat” is an emergency shaft seal and hose repair kit used when there is a failure in a propeller shaft seal or a sudden, major hose leak. The SOS prevents the potentially catastrophic influx of water that commonly leads to a sinking vessel.

At the Miami International Boat Show in February, during the product debut to the world, Great Lakes Scuttlebutt’s Publisher, Erik Kyle, interviewed Capt. Randy Banger, the inventor of the SOS (Seal Or Sink). You can watch the video below and discover why this product is a must-have to ensure safety of you and your crew while underway.

SOS is an emergency repair for propeller shaft seal leaks, hose leaks, and similar; it might save your vessel, sure, but most importantly, it could save your life.
