Light the Way
An unforgettable cruise returns this August to support the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse.

Now entering its second year, Light the Way has quickly become the signature annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse. This special evening brings together supporters, sponsors, preservationists, boaters, civic leaders, and friends of Chicago’s lakefront to help restore one of the city’s most iconic and beloved landmarks.
“The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse has stood watch over the entrance to Chicago’s harbor for generations,” says Kurt Lentsch, FOCHL founder. “Today, we can write the next chapter. This annual fundraiser helps us move closer to opening the lighthouse to the public for the first time in generations and transforming it into a place for history, education, preservation, and inspiration.”
As the sun sets over Lake Michigan, FOCHL friends will cruise toward the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse and celebrate the bright future ahead for this historic beacon at the entrance to Chicago’s harbor.
This evening on Friday, August 7, will include:
- A beautiful river and lakefront cruise aboard one of Chicago’s premier vessels, Chicago’s Emerald Lady of Chicago’s First Lady Fleet.
- Happy Hour Boarding Reception beginning at 6pm, featuring appetizers, beer, and wine.
- Paddle Raise and Silent Auctions.
- Special presentation of The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse: Past, Present, and Future.
- Up-close views of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse.
- A celebration of the people, partners, and supporters helping light the way forward.
Initially built during the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition and moved to its current location in 1917, the Lighthouse stood the test of time and weathered the storms of Lake Michigan. For more than a century, it has guided mariners entering and departing Chicago Harbor. FOCHL's mission is to preserve, restore and celebrate this National Historic Landmark and one of the Great Lakes' most iconic beacons for future generations.
Tickets to the event are sold for $200 each, with proceeds going directly to preservation and restoration work, and sponsors receive prominent recognition before, during, and after the event.
