In the fall of 2019, Tom’s 2008 29ft Back Cove, which had been running perfectly, started to experience a mysterious and inconsistent issue with power to the engine. When leaving the docks one day, Tom made it just out of the channel when his Yanmar single screw diesel engine stalled and would not restart. With only 150 hours on the boat, this was surprising and the research began on how to fix the problem.

What he discovered was that, because the boat sat for long periods between fill ups, water had formed in the fuel tank. It turns out there were only two choices to remedy the issue. He could pump out the bad fuel and buy new, which was expensive and was not environmentally friendly, or he could clean the fuel via “polishing.” Further research discovered that there were very few companies in the NE Ohio area that would polish and clean gasoline or diesel! It was then that Tom, his brother, Bob, and nephew, Bobby, decided to further investigate USA Fuel Service, the company claiming to be able to solve fuel issues by polishing gasoline and diesel for the past 15 years.
