EP Carry, manufacturer of the world’s lightest and most efficient electric outboards, is proud to announce their newest and most advanced outboard, the EP Carry Gen2. Building upon the success of the original motor which excelled propelling lightweight dinghies, Gen2’s new features emphasize ease of use, efficiency, and adaptability to a wider range of vessels and use cases. Designed from the ground up to provide the propulsive power needed for small boats, not modeled after a gasoline outboard, the EP Carry Gen2 has many advantages.
More power without added weight
EP Carry Gen2 is the most efficient and portable electric outboard on the market. It was designed specifically for dinghies and lightweight small craft, where motor and battery weight can impact performance. The Gen2s industry leading 14-lb weight combined with today’s modern LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate LiFePO4) batteries provides a much longer range potential while reducing system cost.
Gen2 is stronger than ever with an advanced controller that delivers 22% more propulsive power without increasing the motor’s size or weight. A new snap-lock battery connector provides an easier, faster and more robust cable attachment. The unique propeller is electronically impact-protected and is able to move easily driven vessels up to 1,000 lbs. and 19’ in length. EP Carry’s high efficiency allows these boats to achieve 20 miles of range or more at full throttle speeds when combined with today’s low-cost, lightweight, safe, and long life standardized high performance LFP batteries.
Award winning technology for ship to shore and more
EP Carry has won both domestic and international innovation awards as the ultimate purpose-designed outboard for portable ship to shore applications. The Gen2 motor’s higher power, increased range capability and additional customizable options strengthens this position. The new features and lightweight performance of EP Carry Gen2 also makes these new motors equally well suited for use on micro-camp-cruisers, small fishing skiffs and kayaks, small daysailers, and beach cats.

Convenient battery and motor package
The EP Carry Gen2 Complete Integrated Package is still designed for portable ship to shore applications. It includes the new ultralight Gen2 outboard motor along with a higher energy waterproof 11.25 Ah battery in a buoyant case that still weighs 6.4 lbs. has a convertible shoulder strap, and easy to attach 24” cables. It also comes with a 5-hour charger that can be run off of most house banks without fear of seriously depleting them. A security lock is still included to help prevent theft at the dinghy dock. Even with its higher power, this ultralight package is complete and ready to use with 60 minutes of run time at full throttle, enough for a few days of use in real-world ship-to-shore operations. This remains the only system completely optimized for ship to shore service on portable dinghies up to 13 feet and 600 lbs, but now with more power.
Modular battery options allow for longer range and affordable upgrades
For users who need more range, EP Carry Gen2 motor-only package allows boaters to provide their own 12V, 24V or 36V LFP battery for many more hours of cruise time. Depending on boat and battery configurations, cruising ranges even at full throttle can exceed 20 miles on a single charge. An optional wireless Bluetooth battery monitor allows users to monitor power levels from their smartphone, and most of the off-the-shelf batteries now come with wireless monitors built in. Monitoring options eliminate range anxiety by displaying battery levels and power usage in real-time. Solar panels are also a common addition to these systems which can further increase range. The founder’s boat using EP Carry Gen2 completes 100nm cruises each year with onboard batteries 100% recharged by two small lightweight solar panels.
Because they are not forced to buy expensive proprietary batteries, EP Carry Gen2 owners always have access to the latest battery technology and can upgrade batteries whenever they choose. The decreasing cost of LFP batteries along with advancing battery performance provides excellent options for EP Carry users both now and when considering future upgrades.
Swappable and adjustable components adapt to a variety of vessels
EP Carry Gen2 lets users easily customize their motor to suit different vessels. The tiller handle is now detachable so it can be retrofitted when a short vs. long tiller is needed. An optional tiller extension is available for users with boats that require them to sit farther away from the motor. Other customization options include a remote throttle kit, shaft length kits, 12V battery operation kits, and battery monitor kits.
The transom adjust system allows EP Carry gen 2 motors to fit on vessels with severe transom rakes. Even on these extreme transoms, EP Carry tilts up far enough to clear the water, which is not possible with other motors. EP Carry Gen2 still has a patented automatic release pivot clamp module, allowing for safe and seamless beach landings, but also now has a traditional tilt latch release for those not familiar or comfortable with the automatic release.
Reliable, Repairable, Upgradable
The EP Carry design is well proven with customers of the original motors logging over 73,000 hours of use on a wide variety of boats and many different conditions. Plus, if you ever have an issue the company stands behind their motors. EP Carry Gen2 motors are proudly made in the USA, are upgradeable and serviceable, and come with a 2-year limited warranty. They offer free firmware updates that can be easily installed wirelessly from a smart phone to keep even older motors up to date. Factory experts offer direct customer troubleshooting support, and cruisers can buy spare part kits, or make repairs themselves with downloadable or printed guides.
The new EP Carry Gen2 electric motor delivers increased power and reliability in a clean gasoline free package. They are lighter weight, more efficient, and more affordable than other gas or electric outboards and don’t require expensive non-upgradable proprietary batteries. EP Carry offers unprecedented battery flexibility with options to use 12, 24 or 36V batteries and has future-proof features that deliver increased range, performance, and longevity.
EP Carry Gen2 is now shipping.
EP Carry Gen2 is available factory direct as a motor-only package for $1,489.00 US or in an integrated package that includes the motor and an LFP battery for $1,999.00 US. This makes the EP Carry Gen2 more affordable than ever. EP Carry Gen2 motors can be ordered in several configurations including long and short shafts and with different tiller handle sizes.
