The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and New York Sea Grant have announced the dates for youth and adults to complete the New York State Boater Safety Certification Course at the 2025 Central New York Boat Show. In 2025, all operators of a motorized watercraft, including personal watercraft, in New York are required to have completed an approved boating safety class.

The adult certification course will be offered on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 12:00-8:00 p.m.; the youth certification course will be offered on Saturday, February 16, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both courses are free of charge and will be held in a conference room at the Expo Center at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York.

Registration is required; contact New York Sea Grant at 315-846-4436. Each adult registering for the course will receive one free admission to the 2025 Central New York Boat Show; each youth registering for the course will receive three free admission tickets to the show.

The certified New York State Safe Boating instructors for these courses at the 2025 Central New York Boat Show will be U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 21 Past Commander Peter Wiles and New York Sea Grant Great Lakes Recreation and Tourism Specialist John Cannaday. Adults and youth must successfully complete the 8-hour boater safety training and the same-day protocol exam at the show to receive certification.

The 2025 Central New York Boat Show will feature exhibits in the Expo Center and Exhibit Center at the NYS Fairgrounds with more than 400 all-new models of power, sail, and non-motorized boats, personal watercraft, previously-enjoyed boats, docks, boating accessories, and a Marine Education Center with safe and environmentally-friendly boating information. Central New York Boat Show hours are 1-8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
