Dometic CRX Fridge Wins Boating Industry Top Product Award

Published: Wednesday, May 18, 2016

The Dometic CRX is the first 3-in-1 marine refrigerator with a patented, easy slide-out removable freezer compartment that transforms the unit into a larger capacity refrigerator-only, or a freezer-only unit.

Dometic Group, a global provider of comfort products for the marine industry, today announced that its innovative new built-in refrigerator/freezer for boats – the Dometic CRX – was named a Top Product for 2016 by Boating Industry magazine.

The Boating Industry Top Product award, which recognizes industry-first innovations in boating, is the latest in a series of honors for the CRX. Earlier this year, the CRX won a SAIL Magazine 2016 Pittman Innovation Award, and in 2015 it won a prestigious DAME Design Award at METS.

Dometic CRX Fridge-Freezer 2The Dometic CRX is the first 3-in-1 marine refrigerator with a patented, easy slide-out removable freezer compartment which transforms the unit into a larger capacity refrigerator-only, or a freezer-only unit. The CRX also has the first and only innovative flush-mount electronic thermostat control panel, located on the interior side wall where users can easily reach it. In addition, a powerful three-speed variable compressor automatically adjusts for optimum performance and noise reduction.

“The CRX is a great new amenity for boaters, allowing them to choose whether they’d like to use it as a fridge/freezer, just a refrigerator, or just a freezer, with temperatures as low as 17°F,” said Ed Todd, Director of National OEM Sales at Dometic Marine. “The easy-slide freezer compartment has no moving parts, and is simple to remove or put back, with no tools required. Boaters can raise or lower the temperature to suit their needs, using flat, space-saving soft-touch controls.”

The fridge/freezer with removable freezer is available in three sizes: the 45-liter CRX-50, 57-liter CRX-65, and 78-liter CRX-80. The CRX’s sleek, modern style includes a recessed, full-width door handle.

The unit’s workings include Dometic’s most advanced refrigeration technology, with a powerful three-speed variable compressor. At start-up, the compressor runs at mid speed, switches to high speed for temperature pull down, then runs at a quiet low speed while maintaining the set point. The unit also has an ice-pick protected evaporator.

A flush-mount, flat control panel features the soft-touch temperature controls, on/off switch, and bright LED lamp triggered by a reliable infrared sensor. An error indicator LED flashes system diagnostic codes so owners can easily troubleshoot issues. The flat control panel allows for more usable storage space.

The CRX’s cooling system is enhanced with a tube and fin condenser that provides greater performance, durability, and corrosion resistance over the traditional wire condenser. A large fan provides better cooling performance, especially in conditions with high ambient temperatures.

The CRX is extra-durable due to its low-vibration design. It has assured clearance between components and tubing, and a foamed mounting plate gives all components a solid and quiet mounting base.
