Dockside Canvas: A Company Grown To Provide The Best Marine Products

Published: Thursday, February 15, 2018

What began as a one-man mobile operation in 1979 has grown to a 35,000 sq. ft. facility with several divisions and one hundred employees.

Owner John Bowen began in a men’s clothing store constructing leather products along with the clothing in the tailoring department. His knowledge led him to launch Dockside Canvas and he began servicing new boat sales at a local dealership. For a few years, this was enough, but John eventually purchased a mobile unit and set out to service the Great Lakes at large. In 1984, John built his first building in Harrison Township, Mich., followed by the marina and an expansion over the following few years.

For 30 years, John and his ever-growing team mastered the fabrication business, building some of the largest fabric display properties in the country to date and employing over 60 people in Warren and Atlanta. In 2013, Dockside Canvas began focusing on bringing new products to market and building them in-house in Michigan for distribution there and in the newly opened location in Florida. 2014 saw the introduction of the art of digital pattern-making for flooring, covers, and enclosures, followed by Dockside Decking, which launched the following year.

Currently, Dockside Canvas continues to focus individual attention to each customer's needs and produce exceptional quality throughout the state of Michigan and the United States. With a wide range of services, from custom awnings to canvas repairs and EZ2CY enclosures, Dockside Canvas continues to set the standard for the best marine products available.
