Discover True Belonging at Great Lakes Yacht Club

Published: Monday, October 16, 2017

Great Lakes Yacht Club is a diverse sail and power boat club offering yachting amenities at an affordable price in a supportive, enjoyable, family-friendly environment.

A hidden paradise in the heart of the Nautical Mile, close to nearby freeways, Great Lakes Yacht Club has quick access to Lake St. Clair making it easy to enjoy your time on the water. Our beautiful park-like grounds and swimming pool provide a relaxing atmosphere so you will also enjoy your time on land! If you want to stay connected while you’re in paradise, we have WiFi internet access in the clubhouse and on the docks.

Our harbor is at least 7 feet deep and accommodates a variety of large and small power and sailboats. We have plenty of paved areas on-site for winter storage. To make life more convenient, we offer a free, self-service pump out facility, two gin poles, and a full time Harbormaster to operate our 30-ton TravelLift and care for our facility and spectacular grounds.

We have a strong racing history as a DRYA member since 1962. We sponsor “The Early Bird Regatta” to benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and other races during the season. We have two Sonar sailboats that are available for use upon completion of a sailing instruction course.

Founded in 1952 by a group of avid sailors, GLYC has always valued diversity in its members. It was one of the first clubs in the region to grant membership to women and, in 1983, elected our first female Commodore. We welcome responsible pet owners and their furry friends.

We have a full-time Club Manager, but we encourage our diverse membership to get involved. This involvement brings a feeling of ownership and belonging and gives members pride in their club, truly enhancing the membership experience.

Our Social Committee puts together a full calendar of events during the summer including cocktail parties and two rendezvous. You can also sit under a shade tree and run your toes through the grass at an impromptu BBQ picnic. Our members enjoy spending time together, so there are also off season social activities including events at local gathering places.
