Boat theft is a serious problem in the United States
and globally. In response, Boat Security
Products of Davie, Florida has engineered and built the Dock-N-Loc Pro.
The Dock-N-Loc Pro is a patented two piece device that attaches directly to and disables the steering of a boat’s outboard engine. With the steering disabled the boat cannot be driven off. Its operation is very similar to that of the “The Club®” automobile steering wheel lock. However, instead of attaching to the steering wheel, as you would with “The Club®”, the Dock-N-Loc Pro attaches directly to the steering assembly of the outboard motor. Installation is as simple as turning the engine to one side, which exposes the steering ram. The Dock-N-Loc Pro is then placed over the exposed ram, which locks the steering and the engine to one side.
“The Dock-N-Loc Pro was
designed to be a simple way to protect your boat from theft,” says Rick Taylor, owner
and inventor. “It can literally be installed and removed in seconds and no modification
to the boat’s steering is necessary.”
Another unique feature of this product is its
construction. The Dock-N-Loc Pro is made
of heavy gauge stainless steel, which provides excellent strength and corrosion
resistance. Added strength comes in the
form of protective guards, which are welded over all key locking points. To
protect the steering mechanism, engine and boat from scratches, and to provide
additional corrosion resistance, the entire device in coated in Polyarmor®. Polyarmor®is a thick, tough, rubber-like
coating that is UV and chemical resistant.
Gasoline, steering fluid or any other substance commonly found in the marine
environment will not affect it. Most
people have seen Polyarmor®, they just weren’t aware of it. It’s commonly used to coat the face masks of
football helmets and other sports equipment, as well as for coating parts in
the automotive industry..jpg)
Some security devices can be large and cumbersome to store when they are not in use. Not the Dock-N-Loc Pro. At eight inches long and weighing less than three pounds it’s small enough to store just about anywhere, which makes it very convenient.
Included with the purchase of every Dock-N-Loc Pro package is the two piece Dock-N-Loc Pro, a 2 3/4” stainless steel disc lock, a “DOCK-N-LOC INSTALLED” pennant and an easy to use storage bag. The disc lock is 100% stainless steel and features a keyhole cover and folding keys. The “DOCK-N-LOC INSTALLED” pennant is placed on the steering wheel of the boat when the Dock-N-Loc Pro is installed letting thieves know to leave the boat alone and to remind the boat’s captain to remove the Dock-N-Loc Pro prior to leaving the dock. The storage bag is for the Dock-N-Loc, disc lock and pennant in when they are not in use.
The Dock-N-Loc Pro fits most outboard steering systems on the market
today, including front mount hydraulic and side mount hydraulic and cable
steering. It will also fit boats with
two or more outboard engines. Boats with
twin engines typically have a single steering assembly, which is then slaved to
the second engine. In this scenario, only
one Dock-N-Loc Pro is required. For
larger boats that have multiple steering mechanisms it may be possible to use
more than one Dock-N-Loc Pro.
With an MSRP of $149.00, the Dock-N-Loc Pro is an extremely cost effective way to secure your boat, especially when compared to other security devices such as alarm systems and GPS locators. These systems can cost thousands of dollars to purchase and install and some even have reoccurring monthly fees. Like most industry accepted security devices, insurance discounts are available for purchasing and using the Dock-N-Loc Pro.
