The Department of Natural Resources and Environment announced that North Gemini Lake and Ross Lake State Forest Campgrounds (SFCG) and the Gemini Lake Boating Access Site in Schoolcraft County will be temporarily closed effective immediately. This temporary closure is due to a large number of hazard trees that are present following the on set of beechbark disease in the area. The campgrounds and access site will remain closed until hazard tree removal is complete. It is hoped they will be reopened by spring 2011.
During this time, similar camping and boating opportunities in close proximity to the affected campgrounds are still available to campers. These include South Gemini Lake, Canoe Lake,Cusino and Kingston Lake SFCG. Ross Lake Boating Access Site also will remain open during the campground closure. For additional information, please contact Scott Lakosky, forest fire supervisor, at 906-452-6227, extension 250.
