Michigan State Waterways Commission to Meet Dec. 10 in Lansing

The Michigan State Waterways Commission will hold its regular meeting on Friday, Dec. 10, at the Country Inn & Suites, located at 6511 Centurion Drive in Lansing. The public meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m.
The commission will take action on the Union Lake Boating Access Site land acquisition, the Traverse City Fee Variance proposal, and a Resolution to Adopt Seasonal and Transient Fee rates for 2011, and adopt 2011 meeting dates and locations, a grant policy amendment and commission elections.
The commission will also receive updates and reports from Department of Natural Resources and Environment staff on various boating projects, operations and other related items that affect the boating program. The public will also have an opportunity to address the commission on boating issues during the public commentary portion of the agenda.

The Michigan State Waterways Commission is an advisory group, created under Public Act 451 of 1994, Part 781, to address issues concerning public boating opportunities in the State of Michigan, including the acquisition, construction and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac, and to advise on regulations and grant funding for the Great Lakes Harbors of Refuge.

Effective Oct. 1, 2010, all resident motor vehicles entering a state park or recreation area must display a valid 2010 motor vehicle permit (MVP) or the new Recreation Passport. The $10 Recreation Passport replaces the MVPs used by Michigan residents for entry into state parks, recreation areas and state-administered boat launches.Valid 2010 MVPs will be honored through Dec. 31, 2010. Michigan residents can get the Recreation Passport (or $5 for motorcycles) by checking"YES" on their license plate renewal forms. Non-resident motor vehicles must still display a valid MVP ($29 annual or $8 daily) to visit a state park, recreation area or state-administered boat launch. These permits are available at any state park or through the Michigan e-Store, at www.michigan.gov/estore.
