“You are not going to find the ideal boat. You are not even going to have it if you design it from scratch.” - Carl Lane. Such a silly quote, but oh, how true it is! It is hilarious to hear people use the analogy “B.O.A.T: Bring On Another Thousand” and the truth it represents. However, that being said, can you put a monetary value on the peace and enjoyment a boat provides you and your family? No boat will ever be perfect, but the experiences and memories it creates can be!
My family’s business, Loadmaster Trailer, is located in little Port Clinton, Ohio. For you fishermen/women out there, you know us best for being the “Walleye Capitol of the World” or better yet, “That little town the ferry leaves from to take you to Put-in-Bay or Kelley’s Island.” Ironically, at our facility we build trailers for a huge array of boat types and ship them all over the US, Canada and even globally. The amount of loyal fisherman, avid sailboaters, antique boat restorers, cruisers, go-fast guys, etc. that we deal with is staggering, and all of them simply beam when they talk about their adventures on the water. So like anything else, we can all want a bigger boat, a faster boat, a different sail or upgraded motor, but as long as what we have is safe, does it really matter?
Through the years, I have watched my parents change their boat based on my brother’s and my stage of life. As you get older, you realize that necessities change. When we were younger we had a slower cruiser with a big cabin. Then, Gary and I got older and were into tubing, knee boarding, etc. and my parents went for a center console style that my brother could easily control. Once we were in college, they chose a faster cruiser with plenty of seating and power but a bit more comfortable for day trips. It is truly a circle of life for boaters and it is interesting to see how quickly needs can change.
My fiancé Logan and I have two jet skis at our condo and we feel like we never have enough time to use them, but when we do, it is SO worth the responsibility of having them. Of course, as our lives progress, the boat will grow along with our family.
The “moral to the story” is no boat will ever be perfect, because we are always changing. However, any boat that allows you the freedom of being on the water, relaxing and enjoying the irreplaceable moments, IS a perfect boat. Enjoy your perfect boat!!
