Use the Winter Blues to Your Advantage

The hustle and bustle of life can often consume us.  We often feel like our “To Do List” is ever growing, and time is just ticking away.  You finish one project and think of three more to do.  Oftentimes, we will put off what should be done today in order to keep up with what we forgot to do yesterday.  It may just be us but my fiancé and I, seemingly, can never get caught up.  We will often reflect back and realize we wasted a lot of time and money on small projects that did not matter, rather than focusing on the bigger issues that can save you money, time or become a smart investment.

Working with my family building custom boat trailers can be challenging: our business is highly seasonal and the shifts from being so busy we struggle to keep up, to the winter when we are steady and actually able to work on progressive changes, is a huge transition.  So far this winter, we have noticed a change in the normal pattern of ordering.  More people are looking at buying a quality trailer as an investment, rather than a luxury item.

Each year, boaters spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars to have their boats cleaned, serviced, transported, pulled for maintenance, stored, etc., most of which the boat owners could do themselves if they had their own quality trailer.  I have already had people regretting storing their boat for this winter, knowing it was just “wasted” money they could have put towards their new trailer, allowing them to store the boat on the trailer themselves.  Is a trailer for everyone? No.  Is a good quality trailer a good investment for some? Yes.

We build each trailer to order and set it up for the boat it will be supporting.  Loadmaster does not have a “stock” trailer, so you know each trailer will be designed to your needs and for the boat’s hull.  Storing your boat on a proper fitting trailer is the best thing you can do to protect the life of your boat’s hull.  This also allows you to clean your boat, work on it, do service to it and more!

This winter, when we are all cooped up and snowed in, one idea is to really calculate the costs associated with having, maintaining, taking care of, storing, transporting and using your boat.  Over time, would buying a trailer pay for itself? You can apply these same questions to a lot of other potential investments as well.  Try not to get so wrapped up in the chaos of life that you forget to step back and make time for the things you truly enjoy the most.  For us avid Great Lakes boaters, being on the water is one of the most rewarding feelings we experience – so why limit yourself? Be sure to enjoy the water and the wonder the winter brings your way!
