Mark Twain said it best: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

It’s so easy in today’s world to second guess ourselves, to talk ourselves out of doing what we really want to do.  It’s easy to put off what can be done for tomorrow, or justify why we don’t pursue what makes us truly happy. In the real world of bills, obligations, budgets and expectations, it can be challenging to focus on our dreams or desire to explore new territory.

I try to end each article I write with something uplifting or challenging, but I thought I would write this entire article with hopes to motivate others to create a summer for themselves that they’ll never forget:  To “Sail away from the safe harbor.”  To “Catch the trade winds in your sails.”  To Explore. To Dream. To Discover.

My post-college years have been a whirlwind.  I’ve moved from coast to coast, then settled back in my home roots of Port Clinton, Ohio.  Through all my journeys and uncomfortable encounters, through the difficult decisions I’ve had to make, moving back “home,” being close to my family, loving my job, my condo, my amazing boyfriend Logan, and gorgeous Lake Erie, I can honestly say I have never been happier.  “Sailing away from my safe harbor” was exactly what I needed to do to find myself in this euphorian place in life.

So my question for you is: “What’s on your summer bucket list?”  Where do you want to travel?  What cool destination have you been hearing about or seeing photos of, but never made it to?  Which weekends can you reschedule or combine to allow time to pursue something you keep putting off?  Boaters are a unique breed; we love the serenity of the water, the peace of the outdoors, and we enjoy the time with our family and friends.  For some, it’s all about the wind blowing in your sails, for others it’s the speed of the ride, but for us all, it’s about the calm and simple enjoyment.  Go Explore. Go Dream. Go Discover… It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it in the end.
