Premium Style, Performance & Comfort
Published: Friday, June 28, 2019
Beautiful elegance, impressive performance, and classic New England styling; the Vanquish Boats 24 Runabout makes a statement everywhere she goes. The exclusive “bow forward” design created by world renowned naval architect Doug Zurn, allows more room for entertaining and relaxing in the cockpit area fostering an uncluttered, open feeling. Her sleek lines harken back to a simpler time when form was as important as function. The advanced hull design delivers a smooth, dry ride in less than perfect coastal conditions and is equally at home on larger lakes that can experience big water. With a powerful gas or diesel engine configuration, the 24RA boasts a top speed of 40 MPH and a cruising speed of 32 MPH. Her ride is the most stable and smoothest in class.
With better engineering and materials, there is less need for additional structural support, providing a greater amount of usable interior space for hanging out with friends and family in comfort. The upholstery options are numerous and include premium choices from Sunbrella® and Ultraleather® fabrics. The appointments and finished craftsmanship are superb, with the blending of angles, textures, and accents adding to the over effect of this modern classic.
In a time when boat designs in this size range tend to be boring and, in most cases, cheap looking, the Vanquish 24RA is a dramatic and welcomed change. At first glance, the appearance is that of a classic sports car, inviting you to come aboard. The sleek finished gunwales average 34 inches - an excellent family safety feature - and the painted non-skid deck ads to the overall design esthetic. The gloss teak cap rail and toe rail blend beautifully with the darker non-skid on the foredeck and the stainless chafing gear, horn, bow light, and centerline cleat to finish the classic look.
The teak accents continue aft with the transom and the swim platform. The cap rail was designed with a raised gutter, directing water overboard and out of the cockpit. This also makes a convenient location for the boat cover snaps. As with any family boat, an absolute must is a tow point, and the 24 RA has a retractable pylon atop the transom. The aft bench seat is an ideal lounging area, adding to the seating available for up to ten adults.
Standard power is a Mercury Mercruiser 6.2L V8 350 HP with the engine positioned amidships on a raised mounting point, providing exceptional access all around. The engine position and the hull design are an example of the level of detail Vanquish goes to for performance and efficiency. With a deadrise at the transom of 16° and specially-sized and angled lifting strakes, the 24RA has a remarkably smooth, stable, and responsive ride.
Another design feature is the size and shape of the drive pocket, which serves two purposes. The first being to allow for the optimal 11° angle of the drive shaft with a maximum diameter four-bladed prop, and the second, being able to provide for a shallow draft of only 19 inches. This configuration, along with the strakes, is very efficient and helps to get her up on plane quickly with less drag.
The foredeck is conveniently accessed via the windscreen walkthrough and has a full-size anchor locker with mounts for a Danforth anchor. Below is substantial storage (95cuft) which can easily hold all the supplies and equipment needed for a family day on the water, including large inflatables, PFDs, and several storage tubs.
She measures in with a length overall of 25’8”, a beam of 8’, carries 75 gallons of fuel, and weighs 4,200 lbs. She is an ideal trailer boat making it easy for you and the family to enjoy coastal boating or cruising on a lake.
Driving, like with any Vanquish Boats model is pure fun. Her performance is impressive, and she handles superbly. In many smaller inboard boats, the handling at the dock can get a bit tricky, but not with the 24RA. She is as responsive in reverse as in forward and the size and shape of her rudder makes docking a breeze. With a running attitude of just 2°, the sightlines are excellent and through the center of the windscreen. The rounded bow flair and position of the cutwater ensure water is thrown low and away, keeping any guests seated on the aft bench dry.
The engine cover is topped with a sun pad and a forward section that adjusts upward to create a chaise lounger. To port is a small refrigerator and sink.
Whether dining with friends or spending a quiet evening with just the two of you, there is a portable table (optional teak) that can be mounted in the cockpit or at the aft bench. And, thanks to Doug Zurn’s hull design, she is far more stable at rest that other boats in class.
Boating is about fun, and the Vanquish Boats 24 Runabout provides that fun with style and premium handcrafted quality. Being built from the best available materials, a Vanquish is a classic that can be handed down from generation to generation. The performance and stability of the 24RA is equaled by her comfort and spaciousness at far less cost that other luxury boats in class.
