Looking For Something On The Great Lakes? We Have A Map For That.
Published: Tuesday, May 5, 2020
Over the past several months, a survey has been available on the Great Lakes Scuttlebutt website asking readers to provide input on their favorite parts of Great Lakes Scuttlebutt as well as what they want to see from the magazine.
“One thing that became clear when reading feedback was that much of what our readers are looking for, we actually have available for them on our website,” said Savannah Hess, Editor of Great Lakes Scuttlebutt. “What also became clear though, is that we needed to improve on how readers could find that information.”
In an effort to continue to connect readers to the world of Great Lakes boating, a new, interactive map has been added to the site.
Found here, boaters can discover Great Lakes Scuttlebutt magazine distribution locations, local boat shows, or a destination of interest using established zoom in/zoom out functionality already available through Google Maps. To use, simply drag the map around, zoom in to an area of the Great Lakes, and find different colored pins marking points across each lake.
“For example, we wanted to make it easier for our fans to find a new place to travel to,” continued Hess. “We have been publishing more than two dozen “destination” articles a year for a few years now, each highlighting a boating-accessible town, marina, or yacht club. We knew there had to be a better way to help our readers discover those places more readily. I feel the map does that.”
The map is also useful for connecting with smaller boat shows and open houses happening across the Lakes, as well as locating each of the more than 1500 distribution locations currently receiving Great Lakes Scuttlebutt.
Erik Kyle, Publisher of Great Lakes Scuttlebutt, said, “It was my father’s vision 27 years ago to reach all the boating communities on the Great Lakes and effectively connect boaters with boating businesses. I can proudly say that we can literally be found everywhere on the Great Lakes, and the fulfillment of my father’s dream is reflected in this map.”
Great Lakes Scuttlebutt continues to grow beyond the free magazine, too, with resources across the web. Find more than 1200 videos on YouTube, nearly 4300 articles on the website, as well as free local classified ads and fishing trends across the Lakes, your Great Lakes resource is here.
