Leading Australia Manufacturer Maritimo Finds An International Winner With Their X-Series
Published: Friday, September 13, 2019
The latest addition to the Maritimo fleet, the X50, has continued to make the innovative X-Series line one of the most successful product launches in Maritimo’s history. Mirroring the astounding international response to the release of the X60 a year prior, the X50’s May debut at the 2019 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show has been followed by sales spanning the globe, from New Zealand to Florida.
It’s not hard to see why. Common to both vessels, and a major contributing factor to their success, is Maritimo's ground-breaking aft cabin accommodation options, including a game-changing ‘beach club’ design. This particular aft design option, which comes standard, allows the cabin to flow effortlessly into all areas of the boat, creating constant connections between guests and the sea. In fact, the X60’s introduction of this option drew international acclaim in 2018 as one of the most exciting advances in the sport yacht sector, especially when coupled with the brand’s trusted performance and ocean going comfort.
The new X50's powerful exterior supports a sophisticated and innovative layout, one that combines functional and simplistic arrangements that are integrated with advanced design features, all of which set it apart from competitors.
X-Series lead designer Tom Barry-Cotter explained, “The X-series has been revolutionary in the sector. Maritimo is a united team committed to further establishing itself as an industry leader in design and performance.”
Inside the X50, the customizable aft accommodation space increases the size of living spaces in the forward accommodations. It features a standard beach club cabin, with ensuite, and is accessible from both the saloon and swim platform deck. The area has been perfected for use as an entertainment and
watersports hub, with the added ability to convert the guest stateroom via a standard folding double bed integrated into the rear bar.
Even with the magnificence of the standard option, versatility was designed into the X50’s aft accommodation space enabling this area to be optioned and utilized as a twin single stateroom with ensuite or a 3.2 metre (10.5 ft) tender garage.
The X50 also includes two expansive staterooms and ensuites in the forward accommodation spaces. The full beam master stateroom – with queen bed (king optional), desk, day bed, drawer unit, full height hanging locker, and panoramic hull windows – is enhanced in size due to the space acquired with the guest accommodations relocating aft when compared with traditional arrangements.
The forward stateroom design features an innovative offset queen bed with connecting ensuite.
The offset bed maximizes available floor space, enabling easier access around and into bed.
Throughout the boat, integrated hull side windows inject panoramic vistas into each cabin, and there are through hull portlights for further ventilation.
The saloon design incorporates optional sliding vista windows that flank each side of the hard top, letting in an abundance of light and air. An optional galley-positioned sunroof provides even more light and ventilation.
The automotive inspired dashboard and helm is ergonomically designed for both comfort and control. There, Maritimo Racing function and equipment interface experience is inbuilt at every level.
Barry-Cotter said the large family galley design, a signature of Maritimo’s style, was incorporated into the rear of the
saloon, with an upright fridge freezer, dishwasher, cooktop, convection microwave, full height pull-out pantry, island bench, and various cupboards and drawers.
The vast cockpit space features heavy weather bi-fold cockpit-saloon doors, rear euro seating, and a starboard side entertainment unit. Protective walk-around decks connect the cockpit with the forward deck entertainment area, featuring a sun lounge bed and lift up backrests.
The advantages achieved through the X50’s innovative design are not limited to only unique, versatile interior spaces. The X50 design team has gone further than ever in the analysis of waterflow over the hull. All underwater components have been analyzed and designed with an obsessive consideration of drag reduction, creating as efficient a hull as possible. Furthermore, the neutral positioning of the engines and mass of the boat, while also optimizing the drive shaft angle, integrates critical balance and performance characteristics into the X50. This thoughtful attention to all aspects of design neutrally balances the hull for enhanced performance, fuel economy, and ride comfort.
“The simplicity of our shaft driven design is a foundational hallmark of our brand’s toughness and reliability," said Barry-Cotter.
“As world leaders in shaft driven performance, the X50 is designed and constructed to meet expectations of delivering class leading fuel economy, range, high speed cruise, and ocean going comfort that we are recognized for."
Maritimo Americas' President, Dave Northrop, explained that the X50 was proving very popular in the Great Lakes because of its size, ease of handling, and broader berthing options.
"To get everything that you enjoy in a 50 foot sport yacht of this caliber is very rare indeed," said Northrop. "It really brings super yacht thinking and benefits to a mid sized sport yacht that can be afforded by a large sector of the boat buying public. The response to it, following the success of the X60, has been phenomenal.
"The X50 provides the ultimate versatility for Great Lakes cruising, or for a weekend dockside or beach party,” said Northrop.
The X60 and X50 are available in the Great Lakes through two highly respected and family owned, multi-generation dealers: Colony Marine and B&E Marine.
Maritimo Americas has its corporate roots for sales, service, and administration on Lake Michigan in Holland.
Northrop said Maritimo was a brand renowned for its “Aussie toughness,” super seakeeping ability, economical and efficient running, and world class luxury.
"These motor yachts are designed to perform and they are serious blue water passage makers, which is exemplified by a significant number which have crossed the Tasman between Australia and New Zealand - some of the world's toughest ocean conditions,” said Northrop. "These are the perfect craft for the waterways of this region and we are already fielding strong enquiry about the yachts' availability," said Northrop.
