"From Personal Craft to Museum Object" : A New Virtual Exhibition from the Antique Boat Museum
Published: Wednesday, July 8, 2020
The Antique Boat Museum recently launched a new virtual exhibition called “From Personal Craft to Museum Object: A Virtual Exhibition Curated by Boat Owners and the Antique Boat Museum” in collaboration with Woody Boater.
The exhibition was conceived from an idea Matt Smith of Woody Boater put forward as a way to generate support for the Antique Boat Museum during the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition’s multiple platforms give boat owners the opportunity to have their boat displayed in a museum without giving up physical ownership of the boat, giving hobbyists a way to share their love of boating with a wider audience.
From Personal Craft to Museum Object, along with ABM’s other virtual offerings that were launched in May, are particularly important as a means for the Antique Boat Museum to have a visible presence, especially since the Museum would normally have seen close to 5000 visitors already by the currently scheduled opening date of June 27.
This new exhibition is displayed on ABM’s new video wall, which is located in the main entrance and faces out onto the street, as well as on ABM’s website, social media platforms, and Woody Boater. Once open to the public, the exhibition will be moved from the video wall to the Robert Osborne Cox Theatre, where visitors will be able to see it as part of their visit to the Museum. From Personal Craft to Museum Object will play across all of the platforms listed until June 2021.
