For Small Boats, The Bombora Wanderer is Unmatched

Published: Wednesday, May 12, 2021

Small boats are one of life's simple pleasures. But because they're rarely used far from shore, they can impart a false sense of security and tempt those aboard to forego PFDs. The Bombora Wanderer is the ideal solution for use on sailboats, racing shells, flat boats, and other light craft. Worn around the waist, it's virtually unnoticeable. But with a pull on the activation cord, it instantly inflates to become a US Coast Guard-approved Type V personal flotation device.

The Bombora Wanderer is designed for active users that demand unrestricted arm and shoulder movement—something a traditional PFD doesn't typically offer. It features a soft, breathable liner for all-weather comfort. A zippered pocket and D-ring attachments are perfect for securing small items. At only 19" L x 7.5" H x 3" D and less than a pound and a half, wearers forget they have it on.

Made for adults 16 and older, the Bombora Wanderer fits chest sizes from 30" to 46". Worn on the wearer's waist in front, a quick-release buckle and side adjustment ensure a comfortable fit. A video is at bit.ly/BomboraWanderer.

If the need arises, the Bombora Wanderer is simple to use. Pulling the brightly colored activation cord inflates the device with 16.5 lbs. of buoyancy. The strap of the high-visibility flotation bag is then slipped over the head to keep the wearer in a face-up position. A manual inflation tube is located below the chin if more air is required.

Once activated, the Bombora Wanderer is easily rearmed and repacked. After drying, a new CO2 cylinder is installed, then the flotation bag is rolled and tucked back into the device, secured by the Velcro cover.

The Bombora Wanderer costs $110 and is available in four color themes: Rasta yellow/green/blue, Sunrise blue/yellow/red, Sunset orange/yellow, and Tidal turquoise/white. A 16gm CO2Rearming Kit is $25.
