Boat Safe Great Lakes, Carefree Boat Club, Gull Lake Marine and BoatUS Foundation make it easy to improve powerboat-handling skills
If you've ever dreamed of experiencing boating firsthand, or if you're a boat operator looking to enhance your powerboat-handling abilities and boost your confidence at the helm, seize this opportunity now. On-water training provider Boat Safe Great Lakes, Carefree Boat Club, Gull Lake Marine, and the nonprofit BoatUS Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water have teamed up to offer a series of at-the-helm boating courses in Milwaukee and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and South Haven, Michigan.
The on-water courses, spanning three hours, come at a reasonable cost of $199. They take place on 21- to 26-foot single-engine powerboats, supervised by a licensed U.S. Coast Guard instructor. With a maximum of four students per vessel, each participant receives ample time at the helm. These courses adhere to the National Safe Boating Council's modular curriculum and are available from Mondays through Thursdays.
“Courses follow a sequential learning process that allows you to take the one you need, such as Introduction to Power Boating for beginners, or build upon your skills by continuing with Precision Docking & Boat Handling, Open-Water Boat Handling or Advanced Maneuvers,” Alan Dennison, program supervisor for the BoatUS Foundation said.
Participants must be at least 16 years old, and there must be a minimum of two people per boat for the classes to proceed. BoatUS Foundation On-Water Training programs are available at 15 locations throughout the United States. Sign up at BoatUS.org/On-Water
