Dometic Marine Wins NMMA Innovation Award at 2020 IBEX Show

Published: Sunday, October 11, 2020

Dometic Marine has won a coveted NMMA Innovation Award for its breakthrough new Electric Power Assist Steering System. The award was announced during the opening ceremonies of the 2020 IBEX Show, a virtual boating industry event running through October 2.

The awards were judged by a panel of top boating writers, evaluating a variety of products for their innovation, unique design, practicality, and benefits they bring to the boating industry and boating enthusiasts.

Dometic’s new Electric Power Assist Steering was selected by the judges for bringing the smooth, easy control of electric power-assisted steering to a wide range of popular boats, including pontoons, runabouts, RIBS, aluminum fishing boats and center consoles.

This new system is an affordable, easy-to-install solution for any mechanically steered boat with single outboard power from 90 to 200 horsepower. It integrates with any existing Dometic/SeaStar rack or rotary cable steering system, so there is no need to install new steering to take advantage of this breakthrough. It also works with either standard or tilt helms.

Dometic Electric Power Assist easily mounts to all major outboard brands and integrates with the boat’s mechanical steering. It reduces steering effort to levels similar to Dometic’s Electric Power Steering, with quick response to the wheel and consistent steering effort from Starboard to Port. Once this system is installed, the mechanical steering cable now only turns the power assist unit, while the electric steering actuator actually turns the engine load.

“We are excited to bring this new steering technology to the market,” said Eric Fetchko, President of Dometic Marine. “This product brings significant benefits to a wide range of boaters — and we believe the industry will embrace it. Winning this prestigious award proves that our confidence is well placed,” added Fetchko
