DAIWA Continues Bait Finesse Innovation with Release of TATULA BF70 Baitcaster

Published: Wednesday, May 1, 2024 2:30 pm

DAIWA adds a second Bait Finesse baitcaster – new TATULA BF70 – to its expanding collection.

Suddenly, "Downsizing" and "fishing small" take on new meaning, especially in the global realm of bass fishing. "Bait finesse" has become the latest trend in pursuing largemouth and smallmouth bass. DAIWA leads the charge with two new reels tailored to these micro-fishing techniques: the recently introduced PX BF70 and its companion baitcaster, the TATULA BF70.

The foundation of Bait Finesse (BF) revolves around presenting smaller, more natural baits with the same effectiveness as their larger counterparts. Achieving this demands downsizing gear without compromising performance, thus calling for specialized baitcasting equipment.

The DAIWA Marketing Manager refers to BF as "ninja fishing," a method employed by bright-minded “bank beaters” who navigate small lakes, ponds, streams, and canals. It’s about traveling light with technical and tactical gear to target often pressured fish in tight confines.

Casts are short yet precisely aimed, akin to GPS-guided missiles. Compounding the challenge is the lightweight nature of the lures, including one- and two-inch crankbaits, hair jigs, inline spinners, lightly weighted plastics, and similar offerings.

In making this level of control, DAIWA infused remarkable technologies into an incredibly lightweight, palmable baitcasting reel. Mills explained that DAIWA meticulously reduced weight without compromising performance, ensuring exceptional functionality.

For instance, the spool of the TATULA BF 70 is made from A7075 aircraft-grade aluminum, ensuring strength while requiring minimal inertia to start. Additionally, DAIWA's exclusive T-Wing System (TWS) enhances this inertia, making the spool and TWS combination superior to other BF reels available on the market.

Mills went on to discuss the merits of both the PX PF70 and TATULA BF70: “These reels aren’t intended to hold a ton of line, maybe 50-yards of straight fluorocarbon or a 100-yards of light braid. Rather, it’s built to manage a small amount of line with exactness.” Mills said BF calls for 4- to 10-lb. test in a superline – like J-Braid Grand x8 – with a 2- to 8-lb. J-Fluoro fluorocarbon leader.

In addition to pitch-and-retrieve baits like micro crankbaits and inline spinners, Mills noted that BF techniques are applicable to dropshotting, as well as Neko, Ned, and Wacky Rigging. Essentially, all your favorite finesse bass fishing techniques can be further perfected.

However, BF extends beyond bass fishing. Trout anglers walking the banks of ponds and wading streams have also adopted the system. Serving as an alternative to spinning gear, some trout anglers appreciate the feel, control, and casting distance offered by BF baitcasters. Moreover, the new TATULA BF70 incorporates other signature DAIWA technologies.

Hyper Drive Design

New design concepts are the pinnacle of durability and innovation. The Hyper Drive Design consists of four new elements: Hyper Armed Housing, Hyper Drive Digigear, Hyper Double Support, Hyper Tough Clutch.

T-Wing System (TWS)

This innovative system tackles the limitations of traditional line guide/level-wind structures by employing a T-shaped line guide that is larger, wider, and less restrictive. TWS enables the line to exit the spool freely, minimizing line angle and friction, thereby reducing line noise and backlash while facilitating more accurate and longer casts.

Ultimate Tournament Drag (UTD)

A drag system that combines low inertia with maximum fish stopping power. UTD utilizes advanced carbon washers, alloy, and stainless steel drag plates with specially designed grease for supreme smoothness.

Zero Adjuster

Fine tuning the factory setting is breeze with the Zero Adjuster, which provides precise control over spool tension, accommodating various lure weights and fishing conditions with a simple dial on the non-handle side.

DAIWA PX BF70 features:

  • Palmable
  • Lightweight
  • Extreme finesse A7075 AIR spool
  • T-Wing System (TWS)
  • Ultimate Tournament Drag (UTD)
  • 90mm Swept Handle
