For the second year, the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association (LEMTA) has announced it will “Rock the Dock” with a boat show in downtown Cleveland’s prestigious North Coast Harbor, September 14-16.
Officially named the “North Coast Harbor Boat Show,” the event had a very positive trial run last September in the shadow of the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Based on that initial success, this year’s show will be expanded to include accessory displays and some smaller boats on adjacent land space, according to Bryan Ralston, LEMTA president. The majority of the show boats will be displayed in the water using all the harbor’s transient docks appropriately dubbed the “Rock & Dock Marina.”
In addition to increasing the show’s footprint, Progressive Insurance has signed on to become the event’s title sponsor. Progressive and LEMTA have a long-standing relationship as the insurance giant, a major insurer of recreational boats nationwide, is also the sponsor of LEMTA’s four other boat shows produced annual throughout Ohio.
“The North Coast Harbor is such an exceptional location right in the heart of the city,” says Ralston. “The setting is one of energy and activity, not just because the Rock Hall is there, but it’s also surrounded by the Great Lakes Science Center, the floating Steamship William G. Mather Museum, the Nuevo Restaurant, and the city towers up over it all for a truly unique background.”
The show will be the center of the weekend’s activity that surrounds the harbor. It will purposely open on Friday before lunchtime so workers from the many nearby office buildings can stroll down to see the harbor activity, explained Ralston. Moreover, boaters from well outside the Cleveland area are expected to be drawn by this boat show and experience all the North Coast Harbor offers, perhaps many visiting it for the first time.
Ralston anticipates there will be more than 100 boats displayed in the water from about 20-foot runabouts to 50-foot-plus motor yachts, plus some cruising sailboats. The marina’s configuration also allows access for dealers wishing to provide in-out sea trials and demonstrations.
Admission to the show will be free. It will run Friday (Sept. 14) 11am to 8pm; Saturday (Sept. 15) 11am to 8pm.; Sunday (Sept. 16) 12 Noon to 6pm.
