Washburn Marina is Proud to Announce Three Service Technicians Achieved Professional Certification in the Marine Boat Repair Industry

Published: Monday, March 14, 2016

Earlier this year Tom Grupstra, Tim Line, and Karl Dunlap, Marine Service Technicians at Washburn
Marina, achieved professional certification in diesel engine repair and gasoline engine repair by
American Boat & Yacht Council (ABYC). This challenging accomplishment leads to a higher goal of
becoming recognized as a Master Technicians. With his electrical certification, Tom Grupstra is a
Master Technician.

ABYC is the essential source of technical information for the marine industry. They develop product
safety standards, credentialing, education, training, and other tools to achieve the goal of making
boating safer. ABYC Standards are the basis of certification programs, marine surveys and legal
judgements, relied upon heavily by boat insurers worldwide.

The Certified Technician program sets the precedent for education in the marine industry and boaters
can be confident that Washburn Marina takes our industry knowledge seriously. With a higher degree
of training come more efficient work produced, greater customer satisfaction and ultimately safer
boats.

Each certification requires 4 days of classroom study with a final test that is no easy feat. Each is a
timed test of 3 hours with 200 questions, covering the complex details of the 8 different certifications
offered. Obtaining 3 of the 8 certificates qualifies a technician as a Master Technician in the industry.
There are only 4 in Wisconsin and Tom Grupstra is one of them!

Congratulations to each of these dedicated Washburn Marina technicians - we are proud of their
achievement and acknowledge their hard work.
