America’s Premier Youth Boating Education Courses Still ‘Teaching The Way Our Children Learn’

Published: Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Welcome to Spirit of America, established in 1995 as a not-for-profit public service organization primarily serving our nation’s youth. Offering a unique, safe, comprehensive water-based educational program, we instill confidence and foster the spirit of teamwork in tens of thousands of our nation’s youth, and include developing self-esteem and nurturing responsible behavior and positive, lifelong ambitions.

Ours is one of the most diverse, all-inclusive programs; sail, human powered, powered, and knowledge based instruction (state education course). Long before Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM), we successfully implemented the vision of placing young people in hands-on environments so that they could learn, better retain, and be matched to potential career opportunities. Twenty-four years later, still directly tied to the National Education, Physical Education, and Next Generation Science Standards, we also provide infinite components to utilize in STEAM programs nationally.

The influence and impact of our objective-based curriculum has infinite reach. Our curriculum meets the needs of our facilitating organizations to whom the program is gifted. Pre-teen and teenage children enjoy the program at little to no cost, growing a viable, sustainable safety culture for all generations. Programs are extended to students’ families and communities, providing a sustainable resource of education and recreation in which all generations can participate.

We continue to prove the likelihood of advancing community boating is extremely high, spurring other beneficial actions, continuing to provide a resource for the future of our industry; ‘Future Boaters, Future Business.’

We are proud to share that we are an organization, maybe the only one in the country, that has incorporated all of the newly approved ‘national on water, skills-based standards of education.’

We are so pleased to launch our 24th season on the water! This year, for the first time, we have students of past graduates! Soon after graduation in Lake County, Ohio, we will unveil the plan for a year-long celebration of our 25th Anniversary. We will be announcing our endowment plan to keep Spirit of America moving throughout the country and into perpetuity. We’ll need your help!

Get ready for a wonderful summer on the water with family and friends. We hope to see you there. Be watching for our students and instructors in your community. Join us!
