Let’s Go Boating!!!

Wow! What an amazing early spring we are having!  Most of us Great Lakes boaters have been blessed with relatively mild weather.  Here in Port Clinton, Ohio, we have seen numerous fishermen out in the open water, doing what they do best!  Unfortunately, the ice fishing season was cut impossibly short, but the mild winter weather has allowed a lot of fisherman to fish almost year round!

So far, we, at Loadmaster Trailer, have had a fantastic early spring rush.  Our customers are thinking of boating earlier than normal!  Hopefully, this mentality transfers over to a long boating and fishing season, which would positively affect marinas, boat yards, dealers, gas docks, etc.

Every spring I remind you readers to go through your preparation check list, for when spring boating weather hits.  So, cross your T’s and dot your I’s, to ensure a safe and easy spring haul-out and first boat ride!

  • We remind everyone to contact their marinas early to find out the earliest you can get your boat in the water.
  • Before launching your boat, make sure you do the proper checks and up keep: batteries, electrical, gas, water, motors/props, GPS/electronics, safety inspection of flares, registration documentation, etc.
  • If you trailer your boat, make sure to do the proper safety checks as well: grease the bearings and inspect them, set all tire pressure, make sure your trailer is structural and not rusting from the inside out, check all your lug nuts, make sure the fasteners/bolts for the bunks/rollers are tight and secure, ensure your lights and brakes are functioning properly and are legal in your state, and do an overall check to prevent any safety issues on the road!  Don’t forget your tie downs!
  • I recommend setting up your Bucket List for the summer, of the “Where do I want to go?” type.  Make a list and go explore!!!
Enjoy your early spring!! Take advantage of the extra time you may get on the water and GO boating and love every minute of it!  We are so lucky to have the luxury of Great Lakes boating, we might as well soak it all in!!  Happy Boating!!!
