The Date Has Changed!
Port Sanilac Boat Show to be held on the 2nd weekend in August
Nestled along the East Ports shoreline of Michigan’s Thumb, Port Sanilac’s show is in its 4th year and growing each year. Moving this year’s show a week earlier coincides with the Antique Yard Sale Trail weekend and promises to draw more visitors.
“Even though the Woodward Dream Cruise is 90 miles away, we still felt it was drawing away from our show,” explained Bill Thomas, Port Sanilac Antique Boat Show chairman.
However, that was only one reason why the show was changed. Port Sanilac has earned a reputation for quality dining and the third weekend in August posed problems for the area restaurants.
“College students were leaving that weekend for school, leaving the restaurants short of staff for the big dining crowds,” added Rita Dahmen, co-chair of the Port Sanilac event.
A local golf tournament also added to the need for a change.
“Many of the local people that wanted to see the boats were tied up with the tournament that is a tradition that weekend,” noted Thomas.
After surveying a sample of boat owners, local business owners, and presenting the idea to the Michigan Chapter in the fall, the date was changed.
“Other benefits of holding the show that weekend have cropped up, including the vintage motorcyclists who also take in the Dream Cruise, letting our show be bigger,” added Dahmen.
So, mark your 2012 calendar for Friday and Saturday, August 10 and 11 to make the short trip, two hours north of Detroit, to Port Sanilac to enjoy the open water, warm friendliness, and great food.
